Information Overflow
The internet in many ways has leveled the playing field, both in terms of how businesses compete with each other, and also in terms of how a consumer interacts with businesses. Companies are no longer sole proprietors of information that they dispense at their own pleasure; in fact, now information is withheld at their own peril. In addition, the ability to distribute information on a massive scale is available to businesses small and large alike, whereas in generations past, that was the exclusive domain of large corporations with huge media budgets.
So how do you fit into a world where everybody is showing, watching, telling, hearing, presenting, receiving... sharing information? The mediums may be new, some newer than others, but the challenge is the same. How do you break through the clutter?
Here are three keys to keep in mind as you consider an approach to your digital marketing.
- Integration: Your digital presence should be consistent across the digital universe as well as with your presence in any other advertising medium, and that of your brand as a whole.
- Relevance: The digital world is full of "stuff." Funny stuff, cute stuff, sad stuff... Stuff is everywhere. In a time when people have so many options for stuff, it is critical that everything you present matters.
- Consistency: Use the digital tools available to stay top of mind with your consumers, and never let them forget you. The last thing you want is for people to say "I wish I would've thought about them when I made that purchase last week!"
